Abi's Attic Boutique

I’m mummy (to beautiful Abi) and a step mummy living in Lincolnshire with my husband and four legged friend.

I used to live and breathe the corporate world/rat race and had a good career within a large Global Corporate; I loved making and creating but had to squeeze it in to what very little spare time I had.

Life changed a lot when I had my daughter (now 3 years old); my perspective on life and career goals changed, and priorities changed in favour of wanting to spend my time with family and loved ones (not in board rooms and on the road). A few life changing events also happened to make me stop and think how short life really is; and there are much more important things than slogging my guts out for companies that could ultimately only view me as just a number.

I wanted to follow my passions and do something I love. I gave up my career to “stay at home”. I still wanted to be busy so I started creating and making on a more regular basis and found friends and family started ordering from me.

In July of this year it became the right time to launch ‘Abi’s Attic’.

My jewellery is inspired by a family holiday in Madeira. I fell in love with the Portuguese cork whilst we were out there… I really wanted to buy so much of it but having just given up my job I resisted… and my husband kept reminding me of my bursting jewellery box back home. I didn’t “need” it.

On returning from our holiday I couldn’t stop thinking about it and started doing my research. I was surprised at how difficult it was to find items that I liked! I’m also a bit of a jewellery hoard – when I find a piece I like I love to have it in different colours to go with my mood or outfit choice… I also like to mix and match, and stack my jewellery so every day can be different. I just couldn’t find it…

I did more research and decided I could make my own (hurrah!). I now source the Cork directly from Portugal and handmake the items at home. I’m constantly adding to the collection and love the flexibility I have to make custom and personalised pieces.

The quality and suppleness of cork fabric can only be compared to that of leather goods.

However, unlike leather, cork fabric is 100% natural and vegan, water repellent, stain resistant and scratch proof.

Another advantage of cork fabric over leather is that it is very low maintenance. To keep cork fabric in good shape, it simply needs to be kept clean with water and a mild soap.

In terms of aging, my new cork items (like anything) will age, but if you keep it in a nice manner, cork products can last for years.
